The company started by two brothers namely Horace Dodge and John Dodge came to limelight with its very first vehicle. Started in the year 1914, the first car to be introduced was the touring car which attracted a lot of customers to Dodge. Subsequently, the company had its four-door sedan and roadster introduced within three years of its start. The product line of Dodge was delighting its customers and soon the company had its trucks segment initiated in 1917. During the First World War, Dodge vehicles were used as ambulances and government vehicles. During this period dark clouds shadowed and the company went into the hands of banking firm and then it was owned by Chrysler Corporation in the year 1928. From then on, Dodge regained its lost momentum and evolved as a separate division responsible for trucks and performance cars. After second World War, the company concentrated on Power wagon trucks and was able to top the segment with the introduction of Hemi-powered Coronet and the Royal Lancer. During 1960s and 1970s dodge was able to launch its best vehicles, the Dodge Charger and the Dodge Challenger for the muscle car and small car segments. Like other manufacturers, the company had a tough time during 70s and was able to recover through the introduction of economy cars, Omni and Aries. In 1984, the company had its iconic minivan Caravan which can accommodate seven members. After the success, Dodge continued to enchant its customers with its Viper roadster and Ram pickup vehicles in early 90s.
